Explorers of the Three Countries
Spain Explorers SummaryChristopher Columbus- He established Hispaniola and many different colonies around the Caribbean area. He also proved the world was not flat by sailing around the world. He landed on the banks of America during that quest which led to many important things, and the reason why we are here today.
Francisco Pizarro- He traveled to Peru and conquered the Incas around 1526. He went to explore America in 1502. He was murdered by political rivals in 1541. Hernandez Cortez- He explored the Cuba area. He also conquered the Aztec Empire and governed it for a few years. *That is present day Mexico. |
England Explorer SummaryHenry Hudson was a sailor who became an explorer. He wanted to look for the North West passage (a path to Asia). However, he ended up exploring America. Living in mainly icy conditions, he explored many regions of this place and claimed land for England.
John Cabot was an explorer who was also looking for the North West passage. Defeated, he returned to England. However, he was told to explore the Canadian coastlines which he did, and made some amazing discoveries |
France Explorer SummaryGiovanni da Verrazzano- He explored the area between the "Carolinian" and "New Found Land".
Jacques Marquette- Founded Michigan's first European settlement. He and Louis Jolliet too see and map the north part of the Mississippi River. Jacques Cartier- He explored a bit of the St. Lawrence River. This helped France learn about the land around it and their natural resources. Samuel de Champlain- He founded Port Royal which was the first permanent French Settlement in 1605. He also founded New France. |
